Large Format Printing Media - You Name It!

It’s open season for large format printing media; almost anything goes these days! Large format printing media includes a long list of printing foundations from paper to adhesive vinyl on smooth floors. No longer are you limited to traditional paper, film, or textiles. Some media are flexible, and can be rolled up without damage, some are not. Certain papers and inks will not accept rolling, some inks on paper will blur or flake off without protective coatings. Cheap inks can cause problems also and are neither durable nor reliable to use. With some paper media, rolling can cause the surface to rub off; or its dust or grit or surface defects actually can damage expensive print heads. Some types of cheap media can cause horizontal banding defects in the finished product. With inkjet printers, you can use metal foil media, static-cling media, rice paper, and newsprint or Kraft papers. You can also use leather media. In addition to papers, large format printing media now includes: canvas, vinyl banners, mesh banner material, film, specialty media, and textiles. Paper is widely used, printed in glossy or matte finishes. Adhesive backed rice paper can be printed on, as can tracing paper, newsprint, Kraft, bond and watercolor papers. Some require protective coatings on the papers, others on the finished printed piece. Canvas can be used for large format printing media. This is nice for art reproductions, in gloss or matte finishes. For banners, use nylon reinforced media, polyethylene, poster papers, polyester cloth, or Tyvek (HDPE high density polyethylene). Many banners and window signs are using vinyl, adhesive backed, non-adhesive backed, scrim, and static-cling vinyl. Specialty media includes holographic film, leather, metallic film, and view-thru polycarbonate. These can be used for backlit displays, and film can be printed on one side with see-through reverse, clear static cling, matte finish, or opaque white.Textiles, fabrics, are also large format printing media. Many are useful at trade shows, for window displays, and for banners. Mesh media make durable large outdoor banners. For items like large presentation checks, use dry erase laminate media. This is durable, can be reused, and is impressive to the audiences. ABV (adhesive backed vinyl) has many uses, including vehicle wrap and floor graphics, and durable outdoor signs. Image board is ideal for digital prints; it is acid-free, rigid, lightweight, dent resistant, and smooth. Posters can be printed or glued to Gator board and FomeCore. Solvent Printing

Are you interested in printing onto canvas or other porous materials? Do you need to print something that will last, and can withstand the sun and weather? If so, then you might be interested in solvent printing. Solvent printing is based on the use of high-grade solvent inks, which require special printing machines and equipment. It is very expensive compared to the simpler inkjet printing that most people use for home or office printing. It also requires media that is more high quality than general use copy paper.

So if you need all this special equipment, why should you consider solvent printing? Well to be blunt, you get what you pay for. Everyday inkjet based printing uses low-quality paper. Colors quickly fade, and the paper is vulnerable to water and weather. This isn't a problem when you use solvent printing and solvent printing canvas. Colors come out vibrant and remain vibrant, meaning that solvent printing is ideal for high-quality reproductions of paintings or photos. It's ideal for turning digital works into real works of art, and because solvent printing is so durable, a topcoat isn't necessary to ensure that the finished product remains beautiful for years.

Solvent printing is ideal for artwork, high-resolution photos. Most solvent printers can accommodate large canvasses and can print at exceedingly high resolutions, ensuring that every single detail that is in the original work. If you've purchased a high-quality print or reproduction of a famous painting or photo, odds are it was produced using solvent printing. Solvent printing is also ideal for printing on tough canvasses intended to be used outside. While not suited to clothing, it is good for use in producing custom designed flags and other canvas decorations because it does not fade and the pigments do not dissolve in water. It is also good for advertisements and other outdoor displays which require lots of color and detail and may be large in size, yet need to be durable and long lasting.

Solvent printing was originally intended to purely be for the outdoors, but it is now high quality to the point where even the most delicate of jobs can be used for it. Eco-friendly solvent printing is also available, so if your cause is green, your signs, reproduced works of art, and high-quality photos can be too. If you're looking for durable, long-lasting, high resolution images, solvent printing is the indoor/outdoor solution for you.
